Hunter's Progress

Conformation – December 2005

The following pictures show how Hunter looked when we purchased him. He has fairly typical Standardbred conformation: head in the air with a bulging brachiocephalicus, dip in front of his withers (which are very prominent), hollow neck, weak topline, hollows behind his withers, hunters bump and pointed quarters, and legs that go all over the place.

Hunter was originally bought for my husband, Ian, who needed a tall good natured horse, suitable for a novice rider. They got on great, and rode on the farm all that first summer, moving cows etc. However, when Ian fell for another horse, Hunter became my project, as you’ll see in future instalments.
